For some odd reason I've sat on 60 posts for ages - and yes I have posted since I hit 60 ;)

Does anyone have any idea of what's going on?

TIA

Have those posts since 60 been outside the local area? Foo, Community Center and Commercial don't count.

From time to time Admin delink certain threads from the active posts (for various reasons)

One of those threads recently has been the GoGuides saga, I have noticed that posts to that thread have not counted - note a number of people on zero posts.

I see from your profile you have contributed to that thread, so I assume those will not count. Other threads could be similar, have a check yourself!

Thanks Cornwall that could be it. Didn't realise it happened.

That stemmed out of the mega update threads where people were posting for no other reason than to run up their post count.

sanity, I haven't checked if this might be the case with you, but very often a member will have several posts in one thread. And I believe that as a general rule only the first post counts.

But don't worry. Post count is not really important. I ought to know. I am one of those members who very seldom write posts with more than ten lines.

There are other members who have written many long posts and often invested much time in research. This difference does not show in the post count.

Thanks troels nybo nielsen.

Think I'll just post when I have something to say eh.

Hang in - your post count will climb!

Search Engine World [webmasterworld.com]

your post count is not important - however your posts are important.

Seriously post count doesn't worry me at all - I just noticed that it hadn't moved for a while and was puzzled. :)

LOL - I guess I do need to learn more about mod_rewrite <joke>

> stupid questions

Questions are important for the community. If you ask an elementary question that I asked last year I may have an opportunity to test my knowledge by answering you. That's one of the most important ways for members to develop their competences.

If you're ignorant it is better consciously to admit your ignorance by asking questions than to show it unconsciously by making stupid statements.

I don't want to come too much off topic, but only a few hours ago I read in a thread in Usenet about a certain action to be "impossible", while I personally know this action to be not only possible, but easy. A piece of academic theorizing that doesn't stand the test of real life. Such statements generally have small chances here at WebmasterWorld. There will almost always be someone who shoots them down.

>stupid questions

They're the only way to learn-- both in asking them, and in answering them. :D

Is there a way to get a real number of all posts made. I am curious how many I have made.

You could try a google search E.g.

limbo "joined:Oct 4, 2002" site:webmasterworld.com

It says I have 382 - which, with my propensity for FOO would be about right - Although that makes almost 1/4 of all my posts have been basically nonsense LOL.

That would mean less than 50 posts in Local. This is not possible, I'm certain that I have lots more.

Now just tried:

Sinner_G forum9 "joined-June 27, 2002" site:webmasterworld.com

for the Foo forum, get 278 results. So what's wrong?

Sheez!

I did the same - looks as though the 382 was a bit conservative! ;)

>Foo

I don't want to know anymore!

My conclusion is that i can kind of understand the not having certain threads count-- on another forum I have a ludicrously high post count (not that I mind) because I've been participating in a very, very, very long silly thread in the chat section. Now, that does indicate that I'm involved in the community-- it's a very involved thread and most of those participating in it are hardcore forum members. But, that doesn't mean I've distributed nearly a thousand nuggets of wisdom throughout the forum. So...
I kind of see the point, and kind of feel sad that I have no way of reliably knowing how many posts I've made here!
:D
On the other hand, i may well be better off not knowing.

The problem for me is that Google does not count my member posts and I make a lot there.

Results 1 - 10 of about 44.

You want to seriously forget about and ignore post count - it's scary.

I didn't even really look at it until I was on about 800 odd, and then I couldn't believe I had posted that amount. In fact, I still don't believe it. It's seriously rigged.

It's all conspiracy designed to drive you to paranoia and paying the subscription fee in order to avoid embarassment.

I'm holding out, but I don't think I can carry on much longer!
