Just curious,
How many members does WebmasterWorld have? I guess about with near 300,000 total posts and so many people at the PUB CONFERENCE, and ranking well in Google, I think about 2 million members, 3 million, 1 million?
500,000?

(Excuse my curiosity.)

Its not the unique visitors or traffic that matters, its the conversion that counts.

surprisingly enough, knowing how many members this place has, has never interested me.

Umm, it's over 800k posts:
[webmasterworld.com...]

Member numbers never matter around here.
[webmasterworld.com...]

We are after members that feel like we do: active, involved, and enjoy the community participation.

I've always said, that if a forum can get just one new quality posting member a month (yes month), you will be successful.

I've done a survey.

Nobody has even seen Marcia and Brett in the same room at the same time.

Your survey is flawed. I've seen 'em together.

I saw Elvis at Pubcon.

Oddly enought I'm in the same boat as Shak - the thought just doesn't come to mind.

I agree, Its the quality of posts that matters, never the quantity.

I needed help with the some mod_rewrite, I came to this site and saw a post that explained a lot about i in clear words, thats the main reason I came here.

Boats, clothes, suspenders, ...

To me, the real question seems to be how many normal (as opposed to weird) members WebmasterWorld has. I guess you can count them on the fingers of one hand. ;)

I’d like to know how many lurkers there are as a ratio to registered users. I was lurker, then I saw the light. I actually felt guilty (a little), that I was getting good stuff when not even being registered. And for those that are wondering, paying for total access is worth every penny.

Lurkers.... I know many Lurkers @ WebmasterWorld, they usually have a site that we discuss/they want us to discuss on WebmasterWorld (ie. Search engines)and they register here and don't participate in any forums, if its a discussion about their site/search engine they jump in, and have a reply. And only reply in a topic about their site/search engine , but not other forums.
(Sticky me if want to know some lurkers I know)
hm. No use. If this gets bigger WebmasterWorld, would be no use as in many people would only like WW (short of WebmasterWorld) for discussing their site.

We need Members who participate in every forum they see, even if they don't know a lot about it, well, most of them do, but are too 'Chicken' to answer questions...

Or sometimes most of them are 'asleep'.Some members that don't reply in 20 days (or less), it should be that WebmasterWorld automatically sends them a Wake-up call in their e-mail.

And also there should be levels (I believe there are), Junior Members, Senior Members etc. and if your a newbie, you don't have many features at WebmasterWord, if you're a Junior Member you have some, if you're a full member you can most of them, if you're a Senior Member/Preffered Member you have all of them, this will encourage WW members to participate and get upto Senior Citizens of WebmasterWorld.

(These were just some Ideas to help WW help get out the lurkers and get some Interesting, Normal people)

Newbies should be made to buy Senior members drinks on a weekly basis! :)

Never mind the number of members and lurkers WW has - I dread to think the number of spammers you get!

The web marketin / SEO / web design industry has way more than its fair share of spammers - im pretty sure that WW has more than its fair shame of them!

Yet, in a year or so of being a member, ive seen little spam, and even that usually dissapears within minutes.

Thank god for Mods and Admin that never sleep! ;)

I don't recall having seen any spam at all - so that's a feather in the cap for the admins/mods.

One new quality poster a month is more than enough I would say. That will draw people in after a 6-12 months, and provide plenty of spider food.

Forums are often chicken and egg things though - to get those quality new members you need something to draw them in.

How was this forum kick-started?

I have only seen SPAM once and it was gone fast. I have seen some accidental SPAM but I don't count that.

lurker to poster ratio is usually 10:1. I think webmaster world has between 15,000 to 35,000 registered users. I've seen forums far far more active then webmasterworld with only 30,000 registered users.

I've seen a forum, that has about 200,000 members, but, unlike WebmasterWorld, its not that helpful, and the environment is a bit too shabby.
Thanks WebmasterWorld for this great service!
