Lightening the load

I've just had my third anniversary of joining WebmasterWorld and recently hit 5K posts, and have to say it's been a great 3 years being part of a community that just gets better and better all the time. I've particularly appreciated the opportunity to communicate with some of the greatest people around, from all over the world.

But the time element involved has grown tremendously, and my client load and workload have increased to the point where it's time to put the brakes on, especially being right in the middle of my busy season.

Something's gotta go! I've always taken a special interest in the new people who join us, and a lot of them have always come in through the Google forum. I believe we've got the best Google forum that can be found anywhere, and it really does need more attention than I've been able to give.

Being mod of 3 forums plus admin, especially with one forum so busy, is a hefty chunk of time. It really has been great, all of it, but putting it all together it's really simple. I'll be handing in the keys to Community Center and Commercial Exchange and hanging up the admin hat.

So I'm still part of the gang, but that lightens the load considerably to what'll be more easily manageable and allow better focus, which just isn't possible when you're spread too thin. The Google Forum has always been my favorite and great fun, and I'll be far better able to give it the time and attention it needs and really deserves.

And hey! Hopefully there will be some time one of these days for what, if I remember right, is called having a life! ;)

I've often wondered just how and where you (and others) find the time (or chemicals), but I'm sure you must be aware of just how much it is appreciated.

Thanks for all you have done and will do in the future.

So, you're sticking your hands through the bars and asking us to take the cuffs off *_*

Thanks for all your very well considered posts Marcia.

A life?

Nah webmasters arent allowed lives! Read the manual! It specifically says, "Social activities are strictly limited to Bi-annual Pub Cons"! ;)

Glad to hear you're still going to be helping out and hope business just gets better and better! :)

hah! I knew it! Human afterall!

:} seriously, ditto what mat said. Very glad to see you are going to keep a hand in, Marcia.. had an instant 'aw no' moment when I saw the title of the post.

"Social activities are strictly limited to Bi-annual Pub Cons"! ;)

heh.. today my coworkers were looking at me like I'd completely lost the plot as I budgeted out how to save about 4G to go to London next year for about four days for Pubcon. "****? who the hell flies across the world for four days?" Webmasterworlders. That's who.

Macia I've always wondered if Brett's clock was having synch problems when you post. Totally understandable - hope you get some sleep now.

Thanks Marcia. I can totally sympathize with the amount of time around here. There is such a feeling of "mission creep" to this place. We take on a few tasks and before you know it, that forum with 1-2 posts a week has 10-20 (or 500-1000 like the Google forum).

Permission for shore leave granted.

Thanks Marcia!

A huge THANK YOU to Marcia and, while I am at it, to the entire mod/admin crew.

Of course it is the posters who provide the substance, but that substance exists within an environment, and it is the mods/admins who provide that environment.

Marcia has always been very sensitive to the needs of newbies, and most of us were newbies when we joined. So, one again, THANK YOU.

>>"mission creep"

What's a joy it's been to watch how quickly the "mission creep" crept up! The rewarding part of it all has been the added opportunity to have that extra bit of interaction with so many of our members. Who would have dreamed that there would ever be an opportunity to get to meet and know so many wonderful people from so many places around the world.

I'll miss that part of it and actually already do, but there comes a time when the 80/20 rule starts to kick in, and 80% is spent trying to figure out how to manage to find the time to get the most critical 20% done that's not getting the attention it righfully should.

At that point the only sensible thing to do is take time to re-prioritize, cut back on time expenditures, and streamline it all down to a reasonable, manageable level.

>>Permission for shore leave granted.

Permission most gracefully accepted, and much needed! And of course I'm always available to fill in should the need ever arise, that goes without saying.

Thanks, Marcia, for being so helpful in so many parts of this community. Glad you're not taking permanent, comprehensive leave of WebmasterWorld duties and contributions. :)
