When I look down the list of threads I cant remember the NUMBER of posts a thread had, therefore I keep loading it up to see if someone has replied ..

Why dont you add the LAST POST BY: Username to the Last Post: section.

That way I can see if people have replied to posts and have a better means of seeing who is talking in the threads ..

Otherwise, I just have to keep loading each page and refreshing etc etc ..

cherrytron if you're logged in you can see red dots next to threads with new posts in them. Just remember to clear the red dots after you've read all the posts in a particular forum by clicking the Reset last read pointers link at the top of the page.

dots schmots .. i get confused with all the dots, flags, yellow exclamations etc etc etc etc ...

a name would be nice .. its just a suggestion.

I could see a "subscribe to thread" being useful. Currently, we have to "reply" to a topic in order to subscribe. And I see that email notification are batched to recipients, so I don't see this sucking up that much more resources?

ummm. we had it that way for awhile. YOu know what we noticed? People posting just to see their name on the index page.

haha losers .. well i guess ill just have to try and remember the "last post date / time" .. i mean that info is pretty useless, you can tell the "active" threads cause they are on the main page / up top ..

"Hmmm I remember the last post on that thread was at 12:10 am on Oct 8, 2003 so if the new post is at 1:45 am on Oct 8, 2003 that must mean someone else posted .. let me take a look."

Its a little harder to remember than "Brett was the last poster in there, ill go and see what cherrytron said" but hey ..

i think a link to the end of the thread (to the latest post) would at least half-way solve the problem, especially for longer threads. you'd still have to click but not to scroll (or click through to the last page).

phpbb has such a function.

cherrytron, I used to not like that that wasn't available either until I figured out the value of the "reset last read pointers" button. It actually works better. Once you're done reading the topics you care about and before you leave to go do something else, just reset the last read pointers and the next time you come here, the only topics that will have red buttons are the ones that have been replied to since your last visit.
