I dislike very much (hate) my own forums on my website. My website is a webmasters resource and the forums... well, they suck, especially compared to the forums here.
Here is my idea:

I would like a forum for my website ON WEBMASTERWORLD. That way I can point my forum link to it and still answer any posts related to MY site, BUT, and here is the biggie, my users can then see the fantastic benefits of webmasterworld more easily (since they would then already be here) and would certainly move on to other topics here that interest them.

I'm one of those not concerned about sending people away from my site to somewhere else, especially if I think they will love the place. And I know they would love it here.

Please. Can I have a forum? Would you at least consider this idea, it would be like having an affiliate program, but you wouldnt have to pay anyone, and it certainly would add more backlinks (not that you need any).

Please, with a cherry on top.

kwasher, chill!

Nobody comes here with the intention of attacking anyone.

Before taking offence at a comment it's worth pausing to consider if it was meant seriously.

Whether it was or not - answering with a joke or a smile and steering the discussion back to the matter that's of importance to you would be a good way to go.

Apart from all the talk of charges, branding benefits etc I wouldn't honestly find this an attractive proposal if I was Brett. Who would people sue for copyright violations, libel etc on any of the "user" forums?

I have read the post you made and at first it did seem as though you want to piggy back on WW success. But i think the idea has alot of clout - if it could have a thorough testing policy for new submission and management like DMOZ it'd work - but would probably need it's own domain to remove the implications of attaching to WW. If you have forum experience I would think about the setting it up youself or someone might see the benefits and jump on it. If I had the time and inclinatin I would give this some thought ;)

(also on another note - I have 1024X768 [IE, win 200k with minimal toolbars]and the frames within part of your site did cause scrolling - sorry to be the barer of bad news :(. when someone here gets the juices flowing of other members they are likely to get critisism and I am have always been curious)

Ahhh. I interpreted the previous statement referring to scrolling to pertain to my entire website. My mistake and I apologize for that. Yes, the frame in the chat link has a slight scroll to it which I spent 5 hours trying to remove. I decided to let it go for now because once you enter chat the window resizes to the proper dimensions. Thank you for clueing me in to where he was 'coming from'. I wish he had said it nicer rather than 'attack mode'.

[edited portion begin] Come to think of it, I changed the chat layout. Would you please sticky me the url(s) in question.[edited portion end]

Let me just say, this is something we've looked at, but I just don't see the demand being there for such a service.

You ARE a smart man (I am assuming you are a man, though I know of females named Brett). Naturally, as I go along I try to counter MY OWN statements, thinking of reasons why it wouldn't work. The best reason I could come up with- perhaps I was the only one who might want it.

In conclusion: I have already repointed my FORUMS link to the webmasterworld main page. I like to do what is best for my people, and this site will no doubt help them tremendously.

Now, about your affiliate program.... (just kidding, I dont intend on starting another another mob beating- I'm too tired)

No, there is a small demand out there for it. I just feel it would require the acquisition of resources (both human and logistical) that I don't think are available in this environment.

I'm not sure I understand what the demand would be. Would it be for topics that aren't discussed in forums that already exist here? If not, why wouldn't people just ask the questions in the proper forums? What would the extra forums add to this site?

Perhaps I'm just not able to wrap my brain around the end result of the project. I think I get what kwasher wants to do, but I don't understand how it would benefit WW. I mean, I don't care one way or the other, I'm just curious.
