Is it OK to post a link exchange request in Link Development

Provided I don't mention my URL or company name

There doesn't seem to be a moderator for Link Development, and I don't want to do the wrong thing.

Is it OK to post a thread saying something like:

"Technical websites looking to exchange links. Please sticky me if interested. We are a group of sites focused around <some topics mentioned here> and are looking for quality sites to exchange links with."

Or if there is a more appropriate way of putting it I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks :-)

Probably frowned upon:

Link Development Forum Charter [webmasterworld.com]

Posting Topics:
This forum covers topics around link building.

It does not cover the actual exchange of links. This is not a forum to trade or ask for links with people.

Damn! That is a shame. I don't see the reasoning behind such a restriction, especially when the actual URLs are not disclosed in the thread but exchanged via stickies.

But thanks for pointing me in the direction of the charter coconutz.

Macro, my understanding is that it's based on an underlying philosophy of discussing the business of doing business, rather than actually *doing* business.

There would be multiple dozens of posts daily with "stickymail me if you're interested in exchanging links" that would obscure the meaty discussions under a huge quantity that really have no interest to other than the individual parties involved, and change the whole focus into a link exchange venue instead of pursuing the original purpose, which is to be helpful to all and serve an educational and developmental purpose.

There are many sites out there for the purpose of exchanging links, it would be straying off course to turn into yet another one. Sharing information and developing ideas is what it's about - meaningful dynamic interaction resulting in valuable content that's priceless to many, many people that stands the test of time.

Thanks for asking first!

Hi Marcia, thanks for taking the time to explain the thought processes behind that "ban". I appreciate the "feel" this site would like to have. I still think it's a shame that even members who've been here for years and developed a lot of friends among other webmasters can't somehow have a location where they can "help each other" via exchanging links. But if that's the way it is, then that's the way it is.

I shall refrain from making any link exchange/trade requests ;-)
