Premoderation Delays Put New Threads Mid-Page or Lower

As a result of premoderation in the Google News forum, there's often a delay between when a thread is posted and when it appears. This is completely understandable, but I'm realizing that I'm missing some new threads because they're added in the position of the original post time, which puts them low on the first page, and sometimes on page 2. As a result, it looks like some threads don't get a single reply to bump them, so they never quite make it up into the more visible area.

I'm thinking that if new threads were added at the top once they're approved, they'd be more likely to be seen and more likely to generate discussion. OTOH, it might be kind of disorienting to see a bunch of new threads thrown in at the top all at once. Anyway, I'd say that would be an acceptable trade-off.

Any thoughts? BTW, I know this is kind of a nit-picking thing, and I'm not trying to play junior moderator or forum cop...just trying to make a helpful (I think) suggestion.

Good suggestion. Maybe the date/time could be set as when the thread got approved instead of when the original post was made.

I think that is an excellant idea. specially if their is a backlog, hence the post could be very low in the recent posts list and consequently missed by most.

Sounds like a good idea, but I also see a problem with it. If someone is the first to find some new feature/new logo/etc and starts a new thread about it, and another member later starts a thread in another forum, then the scoop is for the other member because the time stamp 'proves' he/she was first.

So what? I mean, we are here to share information, I don't care who was the first to post some info.

Yeah, I'm not sure getting credit for something is such a big deal. I have seen the moderators sort that out when something is posted by a few people, though.

There could be both a post & approval timestamps...

Here's another idea, instead of revamping the whole system, possibly creating extra db columns and all that, the mod could just post a reply to approved threads, saying "thread approved" or whatever...just to bump it to the top. Maybe make it come from the "System" username so its completely anonymous. I'm sure that could be scripted easily enough.

What takagi says: first finds will be lost. Perhaps this could be prevented by leaving the original post-date intact but use the time approved for sorting purposes? May need some programming however :(

Now could someone please explain why first find is so important to you? You getting a medal or something?

That's why I'm saying just add an automated post to the newly-approved threads. That way nothing is lost and no new data is needed. I personally don't understand the need to get credit for certain things, but it seems to be an issue, so that's one way to deal with it.

Then again, one mans bug is another mans feature.

Ever consider that some posts are left to be approved later so that they will fall lower down the list?

The good stuff will always rise to the top.
