Forum Moderators: open
I'm thinking that if new threads were added at the top once they're approved, they'd be more likely to be seen and more likely to generate discussion. OTOH, it might be kind of disorienting to see a bunch of new threads thrown in at the top all at once. Anyway, I'd say that would be an acceptable trade-off.
Any thoughts? BTW, I know this is kind of a nit-picking thing, and I'm not trying to play junior moderator or forum cop...just trying to make a helpful (I think) suggestion.
Maybe the date/time could be set as when the thread got approved instead of when the original post was made.
There could be both a post & approval timestamps...
Here's another idea, instead of revamping the whole system, possibly creating extra db columns and all that, the mod could just post a reply to approved threads, saying "thread approved" or whatever...just to bump it to the top. Maybe make it come from the "System" username so its completely anonymous. I'm sure that could be scripted easily enough.
What takagi says: first finds will be lost. Perhaps this could be prevented by leaving the original post-date intact but use the time approved for sorting purposes? May need some programming however :(
That's why I'm saying just add an automated post to the newly-approved threads. That way nothing is lost and no new data is needed. I personally don't understand the need to get credit for certain things, but it seems to be an issue, so that's one way to deal with it.
