Hey everyone. I am leaving my job for a while to go study Java and .net and that means a bit less forum time. I want to know basically how long one's membership can remain dormant until it gets deleted. I will be in and out but there may be periods when I will be gone a while.

I tried finding a topic on this but couldn't....sorry:)
Thanks guys

Skylo, good luck and best wishes on the new venture! Why don't you check in at least once a month to let us know how it's going, or at least put your two cents in in some nonsense or fun thread to remind us that you're still around?

Every couple of months should pretty much keep you on the safe side. Though I really don't know the exact specifics, it's my guess that should do it OK.

Alright so i guess if I check in every now and then and give the odd post (min once a month I guess) then my profile should be okay. I love this place and it would suck badly to lose my membership. Thanks see you soon

P.s. Whilst Iam at it I might as well ask. This is for all with a kind of programming background. I am studying Java and .net for the reason that I know the java people despise .net and visa versa for the microsoft people. So do you all think it is wise to study both or would maybe concentrating on one stream be best?

Cheers

Looks like you have 90 days [webmasterworld.com] between 'membership weeds'.

Good luck with the new direction you are taking.

Well, I'm on the Java side of the fence but I don't hate .NET. I'd like to learn something about the framework but I just don't have the time, I'm too busy trying to turn from a programmer into a webmaster. However, if you're looking at .NET it might be a good idea to concentrate on the C# language. From what I've read about the specs of the language it's VERY close to Java. The OO concepts, even the majority of the keywords, are the same, so if you start with C# or Java it should be a short hop to cover the other and transfer the knowledge you already have.

Would be interested to see if any .NET C# programmers agree.

And good luck! Hope you enjoy it.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. I will be back with new found knowledge. Can't wait! I agree ppg, from what I have researched about the languages is that they are very similar. But what makes me want to pursue .net as well is that I have been told that one can integrate the different .net languages.
One is able to make an apllication in VB.net, another in C#.net and another in say asp.net then put them together so as to make an application that amalgamates them into it's functioning.
I would love to hear from someone who has had experience with them both:)

Hey Skylo great to know you are finally going to learn Java and .net!

One is able to make an apllication in VB.net, another in C#.net and another in say asp.net then put them together so as to make an application that amalgamates them into it's functioning

I don't know much abt the .net architecture but this is what they claimed with COM+ And it's not so easy as they claim. But it's a good decision. Learn Both and decide which to use. One advice I can give you is forget other stuff. Practice 10 to 12 hrs per day and do as much research as you can. This will ensure your fundamentals are strong. Will help a long way. But if you wanna be the best in what you do you gotta give some sacrifices :) HTH.

And BEST Of LUCK!
