Forum Moderators: open
I've some problems with that "new-post" bullet:
(1) The Recent Posts / Active Posts Lists does not show all new posts. On Page #2 there is never a bullet.
while
(2) the bullet appears in way too many posts in the forums themselves. (There's definitly messages that have no new posts.)
Sounds like a cookie problem, but everything here is enabled (and I've no similar problems on other forum sites using cookies).
Sounds familiar to anybody? Is there a solution?
On Page #2 there is never a bullet.
That's because when the second page loads, it checks the cookie and sees that you've been to WebmasterWorld since all those posts on the second page were made (when you visited the first page). Thus, no red bullet. It's just a funtion of the way the system works.
the bullet appears in way too many posts in the forums themselves.
Unlike the Active list, you have to clear read messages manually when inside the forums by hitting the "Reset Last Read Pointers" link.
Hope this helps. :)

The Recent Posts / Active Posts Lists does not show all new posts.
Sometimes the mods will flag certain threads and remove them from the active list. Not sure what governs that decision, and I don't think it should be done, but it's not my board ;)

Just missing a "show # of threads" in the Active List Preferences
That would be nice - especially in the morning or evening when there may be a large number of posts you haven't seen. But I suspect letting everyone constantly refresh the last 100 threads or so on the active would have a detrimental effect on bandwidth usage and perhaps the speed of the site.
So, as Creative Craig said, just be sure to check in frequently - it is what you're supposed to do ;)
the 'New messages' indicator there is weird as well - all msgs are marked as new
If you scroll down to the end of your thread list, you will see an option to reset the last read pointers. Click it, and the next time you visit your "My Threads" page, only threads with new posts will display the red ball.
