Hi,

Just curious how helpful this forum was for you guys. How long have you been checking out this place. Any success stories that stem solely from the use of this site? I'm pretty much a newbie, and just browsing around and it seems like I will be in here for quite a while with all the information that's being given. Would love to hear anything about the helpfulness of this forum especially that no other forum or SEO site offers.

This is where I get all my information & ideas about selling & making money online.

Seriously. From tech, to promotion, to offline marketing, general business, etc -> it's all here.

Nice to have you join us. I've been reading here since May 2000, and after a few months of lurking, I think I made my first post in August of that year...

>>Would love to hear anything about the helpfulness of this forum especially that no other forum or SEO site offers.

Well, imho, the best people in the world at SEO & online promotion participate here.

That is unique, we have more countries participating here, more search engines, etc - than any other place.

I'm sure other people have more on this subject.

Yes, this website is the SOURCE for almost any generic web related issue you could have. Perhaps not so good for advanced scripting questions, and other fringe issues, but thats not the thrust of this site.

Aside from that, if you have a problem you just can't conquer, posting here gets a good response within hours or less. There is nothing else like it on the web. And the moderators, plus a few members, are extremely active and knowledgable.

I only consult one other site for my scripting needs.

This is an awsome forum. I'm a college student for new media, and the questions I've had have been answered by the time I wake up the next morning...

Theres useful topics, interesting discussions, and very intelligent people here :)

I've been here for only a couple months now, but I love it :)

I think you can tell by the sheer number, and the generally high quality, of the posts here just how useful it all is to people.

Well, I should qualify what I have said. I rarely look for help in PHP/Perl, and it seems that is this sites strongest suit. That being said, I tend to check out

www:experts-exchange.com

for my scripting needs. I never post there, though: i can always find my problem, and the solution posted by someone else. I also really like the way that site works, with the poster choosing the best answer.

Also, for flash related scripting, I virtually never go beyond

www:actionscripts.org. Great tutorials and help there, too.

But for DHTML, CSS, HTML, intense browser knowledge, and the workings of running a site, this is the source.

I delinked this sites, and I wouldn't have post them, but I have had some stickies about it. (why must I look for trouble? :) )

This forum, or WW in general?

I found this site back around November of '02. Since then I have increased my SERPS by at least 10 postions, increased serious inquiries generated by my site by several hundred percent, and have increased my script writing skills immeasurably. I learn something of use nearly every time I log in.

I've been around here almost from day one and I owe my current living to the knowledge I've picked up here and the help from many of you that I now consider to be some of my best friends. I'm online about 24 hours a day :) and I rarely go anywhere else. Sometimes I search on google for something I need help with and usually wind up back here anyway - hehe.

I just found this site from a link in another forum.

I have been on here for around 3 hours now - I can't get off!

There is so much useful information here and the best thing is its from real people and real experience :)

I would love a similar UK site as the besiness info forum is very useful to me at the mo.

Great site - I am hooked :)

I have been here for about 10 months, and very similar to the experience by Oilman.

Have made some great friends and business contacts.

Have learnt so much that I need to put some of the stuff lurking in my brain over to the recycle bin.

I am logged on from about 8am > Midnight, so get the chance to do quite a bit of reading.

and Furman, you would be surprised at how many of us are from the UK.

I was fairly new to web design when I discovered WW - I had done some at Uni along with Marketing.

I knew back then (way back in 97/98 ;)) that I wanted to specialise in web marketing, but the resources weren't there.

Then along came WW last year and finally glued the two areas (IT/Marketing) together.

To be honest, since I discovered WW, I finally understand what it is I want to do for a living. Before I kinda knew it involved the web and marketing, but didn't realy know much more.

But, with the help of this site Ive been able to build my skills to the point where I am happy working in my job because:

a) Now I know it's what I want to do, and
b) I know I am good at it! ;)

Cleaned up my act here in many ways. Read nearly everything i could get my hands on before i arrived at WebmasterWorld, and it was all very conflicting. Hence clarity and foresight, and a heck of a lot of learning.

Very. First stumbled across some pages when doing a Google search for "when does google update" and thought I'd found a secret webmaster goldmine. The first pages I read were the Google Knowledge Base and Bretts 12 month plan , and I've never looked back. I'm still a complete amatuer and most of the things discussed here are waaay over my head, but there have been some really juicy plums. It has basically helped to change our whole business plan. I mean, we knew we had to improve our web site, but WW was the key to the door.

Absolute rubbish. Don't listen to anyone on here - they talk junk (especially Brett).

This forum has been extremely helpful to me.
Had a site 2 years ago on geocities, pure content, a subject which I loved.
Was cruising around one day and found this forum.
A week later after I spent a lot of time reading the back posts, I redid the site with a few basic SEO skills picked up from here.
Well lo and behold, yahoo shut me down, my bandwidth had gone thru the roof, needed paid hosting now.
Got a domain, put my content back up, and a few affiliate links and was in business from day one.
One thing I love about this forum is the diversity of the people, some have content sites, some sales sites, and a ton of people do both.
You'll learn more here than anywhere else online, but bottom line is, will you do anything with the info?

success stories that stem solely from the use of this site?

one, yes, although this is for my current day-job site not one of my own, and this certainly isn't a "..and then I found WebmasterWorld and now I'm obscenely rich..." story.

I found WebmasterWorld site via a link from webmonkey when I first decided I needed to learn something about search engine ranking. Completely green.

When I started working here the company's existing website was getting around 20 pageviews a day, now its up to around 800 a day, which may not sound much but its all well targetted traffic and the site generates regular leads (networking services and kit). Mostly they're small scale leads for kit but theres been a few biggies, last week the site pulled in a £25,000 order which I was pretty happy about. But the main focus is bringing in new customers, after that its down to the sales force to keep them sweet and well, keep them.

Brett said that if I followed his 12 month plan I would call my site a success. I followed his 12 month plan and its true, now I call the site a success. Thats why I donated even though I didn't make any money directly myself. I'm still in a job, and I get less sidelong looks from other people in the company wondering what that web bloke in the corner does all day.

I think thats a pretty good recommendation for this site and what you can learn here. I don't regularly visit any other sites for this stuff, I've never felt the need.

I'm a slow methodical kind of person and its taken me a year, but I'm moving towards adding the term 'independent' to my 'webmaster' title, and becoming a proper member :-)

To be honest though, its the tone, the friendliness and the amazing collection of people here that keeps me coming back as much as anything else.

This forum is helpful to me as long as people explain what they are talking about when it comes to programming because as soon as someone mentions boolion values and null fields my brain flys out the top of my head.
