Am I right to think that the little! symbol next to topics you have participated in does not stay around for ever? Does it only show up for 'active threads' in the control panel?

The reason I ask is that if someone posts in an old message, I don't see the symbol. Can I change this? Don't want to miss any crucial posts ;)

You can't change it. It is set up to only remember the last 20(I think) threads you posted to no matter how active they are.

Korkus is correct. There is also one or two known bugs with it. When a thread is moved from forum to forum, no matter how old the thread is, it gets added to your recent posts (not accounting for thread age).

Thanks.

Speaking of bugs ;) is there ny way of getting around the white-space deletion thingy?

As in...

>>the little! symbol

...in my first sentence above. I included a space between the word little and the exclamation mark, but it was removed. Is there a 'nbsp;' type code I could use, or should I just use extra spaces?

That's not a bug, that is a feature. Various browsers have serious problems with white space in forms. If I didn't parse off leading spaces, the dead space in the database would be significant.

The perk of all this is that it also helps to discourage code posting. If you have studied forums, groups, or bbs messaging, you know the risks of heavy code forums - they die. People want quality interaction, not code dumps. It is a tough balance between allowing it when neccessary for a thread, and becoming an annoyance to members.

Sorry, didn't mean to sound critical ;)

>>If you have studied forums

Have to admit it's not really my specialist subject!
The only time i've ever noticed the removal of spaces is when I've posted something where I wanted a symbol on it's own, like !
Which isn't very often, so I guess you have the balance right.
