Why Google News?

Google forum should be just "Google"

Now that Google has news.google.com (the google news site), it seems like it might be confusing for this forum to be called Google News when it's actually about Google search or all of Google.

Just a thought.

I've wondered the same thing. If I posted something about the original technology behind Google it would go here, but it would hardly be news ;)

I dont expect much discussion to be bound to google's news feature as it doesnt directly affect the mass majority of seo people who arn't in the news industry deliverying news to google.

hahah ya, google change your name WW was here first. :D

Robino,

a few months back it was decided that it was becoming a free for all, same old questions over and over again, with very little news stuff about google.

I think that must have led mgmt to decide to rename it, so people would only try and discuss current and future happening about Google, and not the "why am I not in Google, or why is my competitor #1"

The name has stuck, and the strategy has worked to an extent.

I for 1 am glad that the Google Adwords forum was created, as it allows people paying for Google traffic to discuss things in a different arena.

and I heard there was a Google Toolbar forum somewhere round here, but I havent been to it yet :)

With Google such a hot topic, the free for all that Shak mentions is always a risk. There's a lot of good news about Google in the Google News forum so it's nice if the title can reflect that.

Andy, insights into the original technology are very welcome. There are aspects to PageRank (and how it can be applied) that have barely had the surfaced scratched.

NFFC, :-)

and how it can be applied

ciml, I'd be very interested - do you mean how it can be applied to ranking search results, or how it can be applied to systems that are completely unrelated to se's (or even IT for that matter)? I have ideas bubbling about .. not sure if they're any good yet but.... ;)

NFFC - Totaly agree ;)
