For me, it becoming 'just a job' has more to do with the conditions you work in than what you do. Right now I work for a pretty unpleasant company where company policy seems to be that the way to do things is through confrontation and shouting. I take the opposite view and find the atmosphere very counter-productive. Even though it has become a grind and I get that 'just another job' feeling quite a lot, I still get excited about what I do and every day I learn something new.
Finding this site and beginning to learn about website promotion has opened up yet another whole new world on the web for me. Its a real rush building up a site and watching it slowly climbing up the SERPS, watching the traffic come in and seeing start to turn into business.
So I suppose my answer to your question is that despite the fact that I don't like the place I work and sometimes dread going in, I STILL enjoy the actual work itself. That must say something.
Theres so much to learn to run good and profitable websites that IMHO you'll never run out of interesting things to do. Perhaps some of the 'old hands' might get jaded but if you read their posts it certainly doesn't seem that way :-)
It's the perfect job for me because I can just roll out of bed in the morning, fry up some eggs and stumble into the office 10 feet away. Gives a good amount of time to pursue music related interests as well - that's what's so cool, it's all right there. Pure Creation.
The condition of perfection is idleness: the aim of perfection is youth.
cornwall, I guess itīs quite alright then that we get older each day so youth is not achieved anyway and that most of us are not so wealthy as not to need to work to make a living.
But one cannot take Oscar Wilde seriously anyway. And itīs not about thruth but style... There we go again ;)

It does not matter how slowly you go so long as you do not stop.

Thanks for all the fish.
Oh....that was a metaphor....sorry. Nothin to see here...keep moving along.:>)
Oh, I love it also. Fact is I did this before I made 'dime-one'....and would still do it if I didn't make any money at it. Although the money is great, the fun just makes it better..
I get myself into a rut every now and then, but in general, it is better than TV.
Besides, I get to have a sort of 'celebrity' status in our city. Free radio and newspaper 'infommercials', just from being the best in our city.
I think some are disappointed when they see my home-office. Beer cans and smokes everywhere...nothing like they'd expect. Then again, my mother always said I was the 'strange one'.

Not today. :)
Most of the time, yes. Design for me is pretty much plain vanilla, but it's still enjoyable from a creative standpoint, especially when given free reign.
Search engine work is one of the most exciting, fun things I can think of. It's kind of like working puzzles, figuring out how all the pieces go together, which is one of the reasons updates are such fun, seeing if we've solved it right.
Out of it all, being around the board is my absolute top favorite, so it's nice to be doing work that's related, to have a justification to be around here a lot.
