As of February 3, 2003, over 64 percent of Internet users arrived at sites by direct navigation, compared to about 53 percent only a year ago. (WebSideStory)
This is still mis-leading.
This is directly associated with the difference between current needs and changing needs.
Current need - direct navigation to sites you prefer. You don't consult the yellowpages to call a phone number you dial everyday -- you just dial it.
Changing needs - no direct navigation - they don't know where to direct navigate to. If your roof falls off -- you don't randomly dial phone numbers in hope that you get the right one -- you consult the yellowpages.
Search - is exceptional at producing new customers with new needs.
Nearly everyone has at least one new need a month.
