Budget within $700
For student ( lots of writing, ppt making)

Thanks in advance.

I've had so-so luck with Lenovo (2 good - 2 just 'ok). I think before shopping for brand and features, I would shop for warranty and dealer reputation.

Are they building websites?

It's for my daughter. She used a lenovo, didn’t work for her...now a Dell...too slow...and heavy... 😔

Ya, for under $700, that is asking quite a bit. Ever consider a chrome book?

The features that add to the cost of a computer are the same things that make it faster: CPU and RAM. Some laptops are easier to upgrade RAM, so to lower costs look for one with less than optimum RAM that allow you to add RAM modules.

This falls into the "good, fast, or cheap" camp.

Pick two. Can't have all three unless you spend the bucks.

Inflation has made $700 pretty low in the mix, and supply chain problems will only make it worse.

That said, an ordinary decent device will do most things desired. After all, it is the person, not the tool, that gets the job done!

Go for second hand, although those are no longer the bargains they were.

Chromebook has some limitations... :(

As will any budget machine.

You could install Linux on a second hand machine and it will work relatively fast compared to retaining the Windows-based OS.
