Use "personal" cloud to backup from data center?

We have several servers at a colo facility. The backups are being stored on one of the servers there. These won't do a lot of good if an earthquake or nuke wipes out the data center.

Instead of going over to the data center every week (or more often) to swap backup tapes, I am looking into the option of sending backups across the Internet to an off-site location. A full-fledged DR center is out of our price range right now, as are the business options for DropBox, et al.

Has anyone ever used a WD My Cloud or other "personal" cloud device to backup data from a data center? The specs say the data can be accessed from anywhere, as well as uploading pictures from your phone remotely. So it seems like this type of setup (put the cloud device on my home network and send backups across the Internet) should work.

If it would work, I'd most likely take the device to the data center for the initial full backups and then just send the incremental backups over the Internet.

Maybe somewhere around 2 GB/day. The bandwidth isn't an issue- it's going to be the same whether we use this or DropBox.
