we have legacy apps that are 16 bit dos based (Not my choice). They simply won't run on 64 bit OS's .. We've tried vdos, dosbox hyper-vm etc and had problems with each.

I think we could run on windows server with a 32 bit OS. However, as I understand it, 2008 was the last version of windows server offered with a 32 bit option. Windows allows you to downgrade one version which would be 2010

Does anyone know of a legal way to purchase a server running windows in a 32 bit version?

thanks

You tried vDos and had problems.
What would that be, vDos is supposed to run serious DOS apps, that work in NTVDM-Windows 32, in Windows 64.

JosShaars - I'm not the programmer for the paradox apps. . The problem seems to be long lags in certain operations. I believe those are operations where they are going through a large number of records.

We looked at the windows task manager and it seems, as I recall, to be spiking in networking, not drive or cpu.

Vdos was the best solution so far. We are just trying to get a bit more performance.

Heavy network traffic would indicate that:
1. Paradox needs to swap to disk because expanded memory isn’t available (no set).
and/or
2. It is swapping to the network share instead of the local disk.
