hub/switch after a router

Currently I use a Netgear 8 ports router, in 1 room I have 1 server and 1 additional PC, I have two UTP cables there (both coming from the router). The server now has 2 NIC's, so I need 1 extra UTP cable.

I was wondering if it would be possible to go through another route then just bringing up a third UTP cable from the router. Is it possible in this case to put one of the two utp cables into a hub/switch and then by using a short utp cable connect the normal PC with the third utp cable (from the hub/switch)?

Any thoughts/ideas here?

Also what would the IP address be when using a hub or switch in this way? 192.168 like or different?

I already found my answer. Yes it is possible to use a switch after a router. The pc's after the switch will get their IP assigned by the router.

Glad you got it Istvan. Most modern routers offer the ability to "uplink" to a hub/switch or even another router. Tricky at times to configure, depending on the hardware you purchase but indeed it can be done. Here nor there, glad you nailed it.
