I need to get away from my current cloud hosts who are, to put it mildly, abysmal. I have been looking at signing up with a company although today I found anohter company offering what looks to be a good package at a very cheap price.

The thing is, the latter would not have cpanel and I dont know the first thing about running my own server. How easy is it ? How much would it cost to buy a cpanel or plesk licence and how easy is it for me to put it on there.

Cheers in advance

How easy is it ?

Not easy. If you're a cpanel kind of person, find someone that has cpanel.

Running your own server has it's advantages, but there's a huge learning curve and many disadvantages. It's not something you should do just to save a couple of bucks - You'll be unhappy the first time you need to figure out how to add a site to apache. Heck, you'll be unhappy the first time you try to figure out how to install cpanel.

yea, there is no way you are going be able to jump from cpanel user to server admin. The 1000 things you have to keep up with running a server do not translate in anyway to managing a site thru cpanel

glennk I'd recommend a VPS with WHM / Cpanel already set up for you.

I'd go with the suggested VPS solution if they have enough help for you. Some don't.
