My current host is somewhat slow. They also wrote and said I was using too many cpu cycles. I guess my cpu needs have outgrown shared hosting. I would rather not want to have a colocated server where I have to administrator security updates since I am pretty thin on time and I don't keep up with the lastest security exploits.

I have looked for server space but they either don't allow shh access or they require the user to administrator security updates. Does anyone know of any good solutions. If its a specific company please PM me. My understanding is companies cannot be posted in forums.

I guess I can't seem to find a mid teir hosting. Its either $8 a month for shared hosting with 1000 other sites or $500 a month for your own server.

Basically it seems like there is

shared hosting (cheap but slow as crap)

your own server (expensive, fast but you have to do security updates)

cloud computing (average pricing, fast but you have to do security updates)

Basically it would be nice if there was something in the middle. Something faster than shared hosting but where I don't have to admin a box. Maybe something like shared hosting where there are 20 sites on a box instead of 2000.

Searching for [Managed VPS] should get you a lot closer to what you're looking for.

There are a lot of options in between these two extremes. Instead of sharing with 1,000 sites you could share with 30 or 15 or whatever.

Even if those hosting plans weren't good enough, a "managed dedicated server" allows you to get the benefits of a dedicated server without having to maintain it.
