Windows 7, USB 3.0 and a New Laptop

Official release date for Windows 7 is supposed to be 22 October 2009 I believe. Is that the date that the manufacturers start shipping with this OS or when are the new laptops likely to be in the shops?

Likewise for USB 3.0 which reports claim is so much faster than USB 2.0 - but are there any confirmed release dates yet? And any harware to support it yet?

I need to get a new laptop (and soon) but I really do not want to upgrade the OS preferring a clean install of Windows 7 instead.

I know we are quite some time away from USB 3.0 but if it is to be released in the next year then I might be tempted to buy a laptop that would suffice for now, before buying a serious monster with 3.0 at a later date.

I would imagine that PCI Express cards will be released for USB 3.0, so I would not delay a purchasing decision on that account.

Major online suppliers will doubtless have stock with Windows 7 ready to ship on the release date. Shops may take longer but their higher-spec models will probably be ready.

If you're looking for a laptop with USB 3.0 support then it looks like you'd need to wait until next year. I haven't seen the major manufacturers announcing USB 3.0 yet.

Windows 7 machines should be available on October 22nd. I've been running the RTM on several machines, and it's ready to go.

Thanks kaled and bill. USB 3.0 is such a big jump in technology that I may buy just an average laptop now to make do until then.

I just wish Windows 7 was coming out (and in a shop close to me) 2 or 3 days earlier!
