2 or 3 screens on an iMac - possible?

im planning on getting a new iMac and id still like to use at least one of the two lcd's i have on my current dell. can the video card handle 2 screens out of the box? i dont want duplicate screens but spanning across both. this is simple in windows. please dont tell me iMac cant handle this?

according to the mac site the card in question is the NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GS w/512MB GDDR3. do i need special software to make the view span across two screens?

what would it take to hook up both lcd's to an iMac, so 3 screens in total?

You should be able to plug in a second monitor through a mini-dvi port. You don't need any special software, just plug it in and tell it how to behave. You can set it to span or mirror your display.
