Best/Worst LCD Monitors

worst: sharp (4 failures out of 8 monitors after 3 years). The other 4 are poor quality pictures.
hp - 2 monitors 2 very poor pictures under moderate use after 3 years.
Best: Mag, Nec, Gateway. all 7 in top notch condition after moderate use. Gateways look as good as new after having been on 10-12hrs a day for 18months straight.

Other:
Sony - brightness has degraded remarkably after 3 years.

BenQ and Apple are good. Samsung is superb.

Never liked HP either for LCDs..

Running dual Dell wide screens for ~2-years. More often than not, Win dozes on the the screen saver for some bug reason.

After 2 years, I haven't noticed any degradation, and I bought the 2nd monitor 6-months after the 1st. Their brightness levels remain identical to my eyes.

I've been running a couple of Dell 19" (from before the wide-screen days) LCD monitors for the last five years. They look just as good as the day I got them. They're on 10-12 hours a day and I've never had a single issue with them.

My favorite so far is made by ADVAN (they make displays for medical devices). I have it on between 8-12h/day for couple of years now with little degradation.

Samsung (made in UK) - used about 10 hours a day for 3 years - no change.

Running a couple of Digimate LCDs and they work fine, but colour rendering is not so good.
The AOC LCD has far superior colour rendering.
All about 3-4 years old.

Dell 20" Widescreen - 1yr old - excellent, no issues at all

IIyama Vision Master Pro 454 still perfect after 5+ years.

DELL 15", 17", triple 19's and just recently a 27". Workstations running 15's have been going strong for over 5 years. The server farm runs non-stop and there has been no failure and no issue whatsoever for 5 years on the 17" connected to the KVM switch. The triple 19's are fairly new at under a year and the 27" is fresh this week. And man, is it sweet.

OT:
I run 1920 x 1200 for my screen resolution and the big, bright 27-inch display is an investment I should have made long ago. It cost as much as the triple monitor setup with multi-monitor mounting stand but when you are connecting it to a laptop you already have dual-monitors when you include the 17" laptop display itself. I considered the 32" but you need a special video card to optimize the higher screen resolutions ... and I run a laptop so forget that.

discount Samtron in use all day every day still going strong after 3 years.

2 x mid range Viewsonic's are great and trouble free with 10 hours a day for a couple of years so far.

A discount bottom of the range Benq also working well long term but colour not as good as the Viewsonic pair

Samsung don't make monitors in the UK anymore. A big empty factory not far from where I am now.

But Samsung make some really good monitors, hence why they have made monitors for Dell, IBM, HP, Compaq, Dec and many other major makes.

I have a Relysis LCD which is on most of the day (and evening) for 5 (maybe 6) years now. No problems at all. I don't know who makes Relysis, but it has been very reliable.

Love my Dells, 2x19 and 2x20. Both sets are on ~12 hours a day and they all still look great.

One thing to keep in mind is that Gateway, Dell, etc don't manufacture LCDs - they just rebrand their suppliers stock. Most of the time you see people do these comparisons and they say one brand is good and another is bad - and it's the same/or similar model from the manufacturer.

@bcolflesh: I'll second that. I've seen threads on Dell forums with people having very different experiences with what at first glance appears to be the same model. My Dell is actually a Samsung panel, so I guess I got lucky.
