It's amazing how technology has changed the way that people work collaboratively.

So now that I can sit on the phone in a internet conference call, for free, with my PHP developer, SQL optimiser and CSS guy at the same time that we're all working on a collaborative project, what's the headset that we need to most comfortably do the job?

What are you all using (with your bluetooth mobile if not for this particular task)?

I use the Motorola HS series. It's lightweight and works well. There is a mini boom that actually turns power on and off instantly to preserve battery life when not in use. The battery has a good recharge life as it is but it is still a very convenient feature.

It also has volume control and one button answering as well as voice activation calling through your phone's voice-dialing feature. Pretty nice. The model I have is almost two years old now but I see the 700 series is getting rave reviews.

Well now you've done it, TJ. Got me sucked into the subject and now doing some researching today as well ;)

I'm finding that there are a couple of other features available that are pretty nifty. Instead of earloop design, some models now have earbuds available. Personal preference here, but I like earbuds better than earloops.

Another neat feature is a desktop docking station for recharging the phone. Some models also come with an optional USB recharger. I'm assuming the USB recharger is going to allow you to continue using the headset while at your desktop recharging -- that would be handy for those lengthy "on-the-phone" days. I guess at this point you lose your mobility anyway so that might not make as much sense. Why the USB option then? I suppose in case you are on the road and don't want to carry the desktop docking station with you. That would make more sense.

Yeah - I took a punt today and snipped up a Moto 810 on eBay - I'll let you know how I get on with it.

I hear good things about the Jabra (sp?) too, but would prefer to speak (here) to someone that actually owns one.

Hehe - actually, I think headsets could become quite important for the "kind" of work that webmasters do.

I mean, a headset leaves both hands free for the keyboard/mouse, and with voice becoming a free "commodity" to anyone with broadband thanks to networks like Skype, there's no reason not to sit on the "phone" all day.

I started using them years ago for just that reason. I could be mobile and working with both hands as opposed to cranking my neck against my shoulder to hold the phone in place. Speakerphone is nice too, but can be problematic in a multi-user environment or even a noisy office area. Cordless phone with bluetooth headset is the only way to go if you ask me. Hopefully others will chime in here with their preferred headset, I'd like to know more about the Jabra too ...
