What kind of disk? Your hard disk drive (HDD)? A Compact Disk (CD)? A DVD?

Are you referring to products like Symantec's Ghost for Windows? Are you on a Winddows platform? Or other?

For free you can try:

[partition-saving.com...]
[ping.windowsdream.com...]

For paid, the Acronis products are better regarded than Ghost.

I like Paragon Drive Backup. I use the version that runs under DOS. All of my systems have a DOS partition containing Drive Backup and other useful DOS utilities.

It's fast, reliable, and just plain works. Running under DOS insures that everything gets copied completely, no open files, etc. as Windows isn't running when you do the backup. (I am probably overly-paranoid, as the Windows version re-boots into a DOS-like environment which is part of Windows to do a disk copy anyway.)

It doesn't, however, copy Windows Server dynamic volumes properly. No problem with normal NTFS volumes, EXT2, EXT3 Linux volumes, etc.

I never had much luck with Ghost.

I've had very good luck with Ghost up until version 10. I've been working on an issue with Symantec techs for months now, but it may just by my system's peculiar setup.

Ghost 10 is now the old PowerQuest DriveImage product. DriveImage always outperformed Ghost on my systems and I was a bit worried when Symantec bought them out. The issues I'm experiencing now are enough to make me look at other packages.

Has anyone tried BootIt NG? How's Acronis?
