I.e. so black and white is the default.

You've gotta love the way printer companies set the default printing option to color so they can cash in on those yummy color printer cartridge profits. Just bought a really cheap Lexmark 1200 printer/flat bed copier (was ~45.00!). I'd like to change the default printing settings to B&W so when my wife prints her emails (for example) the graphics and ads on the page aren't by default printed in brilliant color. I tried saving the new settings and printing a page but when I go to print another page later it defaults back to color. Does anyone know how to change this or where one can find such printer hacking info?

I'm assuming you set the print options from within an application, in this case, the settings are not saved.

If you right-click the printer and select 'properties' (enter from Control Panel¦Printers and Faxes) change settings and click OK, this should change the defaults. However, this may vary from printer to printer - not sure.

Thanks kaled! Worked. You'd think in the past decade I'd have figured that out ;)
