What exactly do I need

I want to build a site basically like youtube, but i got a lot better ideas, but i was wondering what software would i need to where people can download the videos, upload the videos, users can message eachother etc..if u do this i'd love you

Depends on what kinda of video format,, have a look at the Macromedia Servers th eone that convert video to flash ..
