Computer only sees a CDROM when a CDRW is installed

I've got a pair of CD drives in a computer. One is a CRROM and the other is a CDRW. The computer sees both as CDROM. It doesn't matter how they are configured (M, S, or CS) or if only the CDRW is installed... the computer only picks it up as a CDROM. I've tried 3 different CDRW drives with the same result. Tried the software provided w/ the drives, and windows autodetect software to no avail.

Any ideas aside from running it over with a truck? ;)

Hi Mike,
when your system is booting up, does the bios recognize that you have a cdr?
Looking at this will help determine if this is a Windows issue or a hardware issue. If the system does not recognize the drive as a cdr, you may need to flash your bios..

I've seen something similar to this a while ago.

What I had to do was go to my computer, then right-click the drive, select "recording" and enable the "Enacle CD recording on this drive" checkbox.

This may not be the same problem as you have, but worth checking out. :)
