Does adding a RAID card disable the IDE controller on the motherboard?

I was thinking about making a RAID 1 array but then I read in some forums that people said their CDROM drives were not recognized and even if they were recognized they were no longer bootable.

Is this correct?

From what I could tell these people were using old OS and harware so maybe this is not a problem anymore. Also maybe they just set things up wrong.

If I add a RAID card for the 2 HDs but leave my CDROM connected to the motherboard, will everything function correctly? Can I still boot from CD?

Thanks-

you can still boot from your CD...

make sure the CD is on the primary IDE connector side..it doesn't matter if it's master or slave as long as it's on the primary side...
