have bought a second hand monitor when i switch on it says its out of range what do i do?

Can you actually see the desktop on your screen?

Try reducing the refresh rate and or resolution of your graphics card.

Right click your desktop, then click properties/settings/advanced/adaptor

cannot see desktop just a message that says out of range?

Try another monitor, set your PC to the lowest resolution and refresh rate possible.

Reconnect your new monitor, and slowly increase the resolution and refresh rate until it complains.

tryed another then went back to first -now all ok
