Anybody managed to use remote desktop?

I've been trying to set this windows xp remote desktop thingy but with no success. I'm trying to connect from a laptop which runs xp home to a computer in a small office network of three computers.

I seem to be eighty percent there but keep getting the error message 'remote dektop may not be set up' (it is) or the network may be having problems (it isn't, but I'm not sure if it blocking the remote desktop on purpose).

I know I've done something wrong but can't work out what. Also, is it true that remote dektop has problems with xp home and with networks. Should I stop bothering?

remote desktop is fairly reliable

common issues include firewalls, both hardware and software

Could be a firewall issue. Remote Desktop needs port 3389 opened. Read more at remote desktop [microsoft.com].

I don't know about mixing XP versions. I use it between XP Pro machines.

The remote computer has to be running XP Pro. XP Home won't act as a server, but can be used to contact the remote machine.

A problem I have seen in the past is the built in MS firewall that stops the VPN working.
