Computer on, but nothing appears on monitor

PC works - but because safe mode, monitor not showing anything

Been having some problems. Time to time, an IE window will pop up and show a wallpaper site to go to.

It was starting to get a little annoying. To get rid of these spyware pop-ups for a wallpaper site, a website advised me to set up my computer in Safe Mode so that I could delete it. I did that using "msconfig" in Run. Even though my computer comes on, I can't see anything on the monitor! That is because it is in safe mode.

The thing is the images on my monitor screen only started showing towards the end of the Windows start-up, unlike on my previous computers where screen display started within a couple of seconds of switching on computer. PC is a Sony Vaio and monitor is a Samsung 730T; both new.

Now I don't know how to set my computer to start-up in Normal mode. If computer starts in Normal mode I will be able to see the screen on my monitor again.

Am typing this from an internet cafe.

It may not be a problem with your PC screen.

I have gone to the website shown in your profile and i just get a blank dark blue screen - but if i scroll forward a few times i can then see your web-page. You need to fix the html.

You'd use msconfig to control the programs stating at boot. Or, some of them at least. You'd use a good spyware program to get rid of spyware. Just disabling the spyware in msconfig is unlikely to solve the main problem.

Holding down control on the keyboard while the machine is powering up sometimes gives you the boot menu. (It's more likely to work if you've got the KB connected via round PS2 socket rather than USB). When you get the boot menu you could choose to start in "Normal" mode.

Sony may have disabled the Windows splash screen. No big deal.

Starting the computer in safe mode won't disable the monitor, although it would probably force it to 640/480 mode.
