I have recently been set up with a LAN-to-LAN router which means I am always connected to the server (good for instant email in Outlook etc) while being able to surf directly from my machine, not through the company server.
Before this I had to establish a VPN connection to sync email and files, and disconnect to get decent surfing performance and avoid taking up server resources.
The problem is that on LAN-to-LAN every time I work on a file, or even browse folders, data gets sent to the server and files update on the fly. So if I am working on a 10MB image in Photoshop, doing regular saves for safety is a nightmare. Even right-clicking a file takes ages.
What I need is the ability to have my files held locally, and only have them sync when I say so, while keeping the LAN-to-LAN setup.
My tech has told me this is impossible with the current configuration, without getting some extra sync software to sync my local files with the server outside of the Windows Offline Files setup.
Is he right, and if so, does anyone know of any such software?
Cheers
