Cannot Setup My new router

Is it because I have another router setup already?

Just braught linksys wireless broadband router to replace the D-link DI-624 since it would constently disconnect and stop working frequently and for long periods of time. The problem is that when trying to follow the install disc for linksys and it gets to one point were it tries to connect to the internet it will always come up with an error message stating that I should try and turn my cable/dsl box off then back on and try again but it never works and have tried going over the instructions over and over but nothing seems to get it to work past that point. Could the problem be because im installing a new routers settings over an existing one thats already setup? If so how can I wipe those settings back to just a normal dsl to computer setup? Ive also tried setting up the connection to before the d-link router but cannot seem to erase those settings back to before it was installed, is there any way of doing that or is that not even necesary?

Electrically speaking, are you rebooting them in the correct order? Try reversing the order you boot them and see if it helps.

And if your talking about rebooting my router first then try it or also reboot my dsl, its only given me messages to then restart the process over and reset the router to the manufactures settings.

Not exactly, no. Unplugging both the Router and the Modem at the same time is where I was going.

Shut down the machine once you've got everything connected, then plug in the - Modem first, Router second and then boot the Computer.

Are the cables plugged in correctly?

Try these options also:

-Unplug the router and cable modem; plug in the cable modem, wait 5 minutes.... then plug in the router, and wait 5 minutes before you login to make any changes.
(sometimes this works)

-Recently I had a router that was trying to use the same ip address as the cable modem (192.168.0.1) so I changed the routers ip range to 192.168.2.1 this fixed my off-on problem. (once out of 2 times, second time was a faulty router)

Just a couple things to try.
