Hi, I read a lot every day due to personal interests (science, psychology, communication, writing, computers, etc.), and this also relates to my content creation activities, yes I must confess it's been a while since I don't post on my websites, but that's a separate matter.

I built a decent collection of important readings on getpocket (formerly "read it later"), this was later absorbed by Mozilla and implemented on Firefox (I was happy about that), and I kept my collection on the app (iPad) marked as "unread", this meant the articles weren't moved out from my database, but kept forever to read whenever I wanted to. Now this is not possible.

Just yesterday began reading about alternatives, and things don't look promising.

I have a Kindle, and I would love the same functionality of having my fav articles sent there and kept there for archival purposes.

It's funny, I remember seeing services online years ago offering to receive your links, and then, they would build a magazine for you to print and read later (yes, this was a long time ago). Suddenly, this sounds like a great idea to me.

I've read recent discussions of people in the search of solutions, most (like me) don't like what's around, and some suggest a solution is for someone to develop the tool himself and host it on their servers. Ahhhh I don't like the idea so much, but I don't dislike it so much anyway. I'm starting to think about this.

What do you do?

I do not like to keep the info on bookmarks, I'm also on the route of reading more far from the computer or smartphone.

I print articles as .pdf but I realize that would only work for your usage preferences if you were to print each of them.

What do you do?

Never trusted a third party to keep my stuff for any length of time. Why? It's not under my control.

If I encounter something WORTH reading AND keeping, I save the dang thing (with or without pictures) and come back to it later. In the process I can change the file name to something that makes sense. Since I surf with script and ad blockers I usually get JUST the stuff I want.

On the other hand, I have several Word docs where I cut and insert factoids where I can revisit the data/info when needed.

Either of the above is just as easy to do as "click pocket", only difference is the data STAYS on your machine/device.

I learned sometime back that the web MAY seem forever, but it AIN'T! Sites close nearly as fast as they are made, or change/morph into something different than when first encountered. One thing I have learned along the way: some of the stuff I might want to read later, just "not right now", actually wasn't all that important in the first place. Either it IS (and you save it) or it isn't (read now) or has no real value (why bother?).

I consider these files a personal library CURATED by me. And why not? Drives are "huge" these days.

Apologies, didn't notice the notifications around the dates I posted the thread.

Yes, but saving to PDF has been around my mind in order to keep an archive, and to copy the files to my Kindle for easy reading (and main readable archive), that's why I loved Getpocket. I tried sending stuff to my kindle using Amazon but didn't like the ritual.

@tangor: yes, that's also a possibility. I find value on keeping the info at hand because I can't memorize all the details, some articles about health involving chemicals, or tech stuff can often be too complex. Regarding "under my control", I've been thinking on building my own "getpocket", being able to send links to my own web app that would convert the articles into full readable version and save it under diff categories. To my surprise, there are already open source (or just free) tools online, Firefox tools included.

Yes, there are. For me, however, these seem like re-inventing the wheel. What I've been doing still works so not likely to change habits. On the other hand if there is a better way to snag/keep info I might be tempted.
