I've used chatGPT and all of those other AI tools, and it's undoubtedly very impressive how they can create code and images and talk to you like they're having a conversation etc., but it's not intelligent is it. It's not AI like in the movies.

The version of AI that search engines are pushing is just glorified scraping and spinning. I think the whole thing is a triumph of marketing.

I can remember the imminent Ice Age of the 70s.
Then came the year 2000 apocalypse.
After that, Global Warming.
When that didn't work, we got Climate Change.
Bitcoin came next, because no one knew what it was or how it worked.
Now we have AI, and NO ONE understands how that works (because it doesn't)
I wonder what's next in the game?
Maybe a meteorite.
Just follow the money.

Agreed.

If I were a quality rater at G, my general thought process would be "how much effort did it take to make this website/webpage?". As it goes, real human effort and research doesn't count for much as at the moment the AI consumption of it is permissible and at best, opt out for user agents who are willing to divulge their intentions.

Surely it all comes down to lack of enforcement of copyright, or lack of enforcement by big tech. Even if you block bots, someone else can scrape your content and essentially get the dibs on uniqueness. It's upside down.
