Former Google engineer Felix Krause posted a consumer warning about Facebook and Instagram apps on his site wednesday - [krausefx.com...]

The article warns that Meta, owners of Facebook and Instagram, are using an in-app browser that injects code into every website a user visits for tracking purposes.

- No way to opt out
- No way to remove injected tracking code
- Little warning to users that apps are not using the default browser

My opinion - seems a little shady whatever the reasoning because the entire purpose for using an in-app browser instead of the IOS default is to track and gather information users are not readily providing while visiting non-Meta websites. For example, it would allow Meta to know who posted what on this forum.

As a webmaster, is there a way I can identify if a visitor is on such a Meta "in-app" browser and stop such code-injection?

The article is a thorough and interesting read.

Yes, you can mostly opt out, by not opting in:

1)The only time you use the Facebook 'browser' is when you are in the app and click on a website link in someones feed..
2) click the three dots in top right and take 'open in browser' to use the default system browser for that url.

ban it via agent name if you like...
