As Firefox and Chrome head towards three digit version numbers, this could be problematic for some sites that identify the version number.

There's a useful post about how Chrome and FF are working towards mitigating against problems, and I recommend you read this.

Both Firefox and Chrome have been running experiments where current versions of the browser report being at major version 100 in order to detect possible website breakage. This has led to a few reported issues, some of which have already been fixed. These experiments will continue to run until the release of version 100.

There are also backup mitigation strategies in place, in case version 100 release to stable channels causes more damage to websites than anticipated.

- Version 100 in Chrome and Firefox-

. At this point I have .htaccess and web.comfig entries on a very busy bit older code based sites deny access to up to FF-54(not interested in bots).
. My perfectly FINE time reading a paper via FF on my LollyPop serves content, so do all sites programmed by adults(don't go there, that is not what I mean).
. I have not used Chrome browser to do things that I really do in a while.

^Now that split in 3^

If someone for FF or GooG is interested here, lets talk.

I mean it is an Idea? Right?

Stop for a sec at this point. Use technology for a handshake else where.

Heh. I remember having some unintended lockouts when MSIE moved to two digits. Suddenly all the rules had to be changed from ^[1-5] to ^[1-5]\.

Who are they kidding? If they used major version numbers correctly, ie: for major changes then, their current versions would still be something like 6.5.100

Contrariwise, I never did understand why Mac OS 7.5 wasn't called 8.0, considering the huge changes in user interface... (And I have no idea what the vast difference was supposed to be between 10.15 and 11, or why they then leapt directly to 12.)
