Finding a prior domain owner

For most likely good reasons.

Anyone know of a solid way to find a past domain owner? For most likely good reasons. I know there are tons of domain tools or sites that might claim to be great at taking my money but.... I feel like I would pay for nothing or pay and just get a privacy status.

Background: I had found a site and liked what they had done. It was a unique niche thing. I was going to reach out and make contact, possibly offer to work together (I am higher profile in the space while this site didn't seem to register) or most likely try to buy it or buy the program the person had written to do the data. I bookmarked it and...well, kind of forgot about it the last couple of years with everything going on in the world. Swinging back around to work on this niche again and I find the site is gone. It's parked and showing Japanese stuff. It went online in spring of 2019 and the last good archive.org version was Jan of 2021. So it did not last long. Of course the contact link on the site goes to a "contact at domain name" email for the domain that isn't there now. The Paypal donate button (also from archive) doesn't really help unless there is a way to look up the "business" value in the code. I would send a few dollars just to make contact if I thought that worked.

I could duplicate it with a lot work myself or hiring another coder but if I could reach back in time and maybe help someone who already did it... just seems a little better.

There is no social media links? You can inspect the code, to see if the og tags embed information about a twitter or facebook account related to the site.

As for the paypal button, I never used any, but I guess that , the should tell you to whom you are sending money, isn't it ? (of course if this is the name of the site , this is of no help).
