Why am I getting all these SEO and affiliation emails?

I've had website for a while. I would maybe get one or two partnership or offers of SEO help emails a year. Then there was the "incident" last year. I'm pretty sure I was the target of negative SEO. I even got email from someone offering their SEO services asking me if I wanted to hit back. Since then my visits have doubled. Now I get multiple emails a day from people offering to help me with SEO, offering to redo my website and partnership offers. I would like to think it's because I've hit some threshold so I'm worthy of the attention. Instead I think I've made it on to some list of people that got hit. Does anyone have any insights?

is there something about your site or server that provides a detectable footprint or is it something external to you?

Sometimes these things are cyclic ... almost as if a worn out mailing list has been picked up by the next group of wise acres who think they are the best thing since sliced bread for the bait and switch snake oil stuff...

I view most of these as desperate folks being stupidly desperate with robot spam dialed to 11 in the hope that 1 in 10,000 will respond.

Did you renew your domain recently? I always get a load of spam offering SEO, development, etc. following a domain renewal.

Also, it seems to be the higher you rank, the more SEO spam offers you get - go figure!
