Some questions regarding (best) practices in subscription based models:

- Do you send receipts by email after each billing cycle or keep the receipts?

- Do you keep receipts for user download on your site?

- Do you send a notice about automatic renewal in advance?

As a user, I'd like all of the above, but with the option to turn off receiving receipts by e-mail.

Some payment processors retain the receipts and invoices, and handle the transactions so it's not always necessary to keep the records for the customer, just for the business.
Notification in advance helps greatly.

I assume that many subscription based businesses make a lot of money from users who forget to cancel or are too lazy to do so.

Sending notification in advance is necessary by law in some countries, if the cycle is bigger than six months.

Has anyone one experience from the business point of view?
