Will there always be free SSL certificates?

OK, I'm about to jump on the SSL bandwagon. The only concern at the moment is this: I run several sites and quite a few of them earns just enough to pay for their renewals. I couldn't afford paying extra for SSL certs.

Now I can get CA signed SSL certs for free. But what if this comes to an end and they start asking payment for the certs? Will there always be a free option?

Working on the internet, one should be accustomed to change. Nothing is certain.

Free certs are on the rise, not decline. All indication points to their continuation. Paid certs have become very affordable as well, so much so that there is the forseable possibility they may be the ones phasing out.

"Let's encrypt" will always propose free SSL cert. (we are talking about the basic SSL, not the EV of-course). And you have enough other sites proposing free SSL, that you can be sure there will always be one (and more).

Some new hosting plans include 1 free SSL certificate. This was the reason why I moved 2 of my sites to a new hosting company. A bit of a hassle, but the new deal was better anyway and I don't regret it.
