in 2005, i started my website as a country travel guide like many other websites, over this years a did everything posted in this or others forums (content, seo, links), i got edu links, i got free yahoo listing, 2 dmoz listings which were deleted for unknown reasons, optimized every image and every icon (i've always calculated the keywords density), and i still cant be in top 10 even top 20, im in the 47 position, im seeing now new websites made even with (seo-weak) cms in the top 20, i can understand what im doing wrong ! if someone have an experience with such country based website in google please advise

That niche is very well-populated. It might be dang difficult to achieve any kind of decent serp rank unless there is something new and compelling in the offered content.

with what google and some big travel players are offering (maps, flights, accomodations) there is nothing left to offer
