hi all,

I recently purchased a site with decent traffic etc...

Unfortunately the site is under constant DOS attacks.

Would you recommend signing up for 'Server Management' companies that basically guarantee a 24/7 up time on your server?

I'm not that techie and my hosting company can't offer more help. They recommended a partner company and said that they are very helpful.

What do you think?

constant DOS attacks? They're not normally constant - they're normally sporadic, for a day then gone.

Hosting companies have a hard time correcting them simply because they are distributed and it's near impossible normally to differentiate regular traffic from DOS traffic. However in some cases it may be possible to do so - I would suggest you ask your new hosting company if they can differentiate before moving your site.

A 24/7 uptime guarantee won't help you with a guarantee - it's normally the site/server that gets overloaded, not the hosting company's network.

thank you. I'm planning to use a Server Management service such as Platinum Server Management to fix the issue.

Yes, this is the 3rd or 4th time in a month where my site is attacked.

Any recommendations on what Server Management service to use?

I'd start looking for a hosting company that's willing to go that extra mile and help you come up with a proper solution. I certainly wouldn't give root access to a company that provides no physical address on its website, and offers "unlimited admin time" for a small price.

Is there any hosting company that offers services to prevent and block DOS attacks?

Someone told me about Server Origin...

Any help and suggestion is appreciated.

Have you worked out why your site is being targetted? Whois behind the attacks?

I would follow that angle first.

There is a server company who are pubcon sponsors whose name appears sometimes at the top of these pages from time to time ..their name makes a rhyme ..with time to time..;-) when I was translating for a French hoster who used their managed service, I found them very pro-active and competent during a DOS attack..

I would add that they were also working and available 24/7 both on fixed phone line , mobiles, email etc..and have their own DCs..had to get them to go in and work on hardware twice on other things when upgrades were required..prices are OK too ..HTH :)

The French hoster allowed IRC and "similar" on his servers ..good way to get attention that you don't want..

I do not know! I recently purchased this site because of its high traffic not realizing that the drop (based on Alexa) is not because they redirected the site to Sedo but the DDoS attacks. I was notified that the site was attacked twice but I dont think thats true cause within the past 1 month Ive been attacked 3 times!

Anyway, my solution:

I am using another hosting company which is known for DDoS Protection and my site now works fine. :)

Their service isnt as good as my previous hosting company, however, they do what I'm looking for and that is filter out bad traffic and blocks DoS attacks.
