:: insert boilerplate about not being sure which of four forums this grumble belongs in ::

A while back, I blocked all image access for facebookexternalhit, since their sole reason for existence is to facilitate hotlinks. They're welcome to the page text. After a while I get curious and paste a random FB link from my logs into my browser's address bar. Decoded, it says

http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http://www.example.com/ebooks/perez/Perez.html&h=YAQDdu2gzAQDMNuqDqVXbLB44wjNU9i5DShfSKEGv3vKsQg

This takes me to a page called Leaving Facebook, with a warning message:
______

Warning
We recommend not visiting this link as it could be harmful to your computer or Facebook account. If you choose to visit, do not download software or enter your Facebook password. To learn more about staying safe on the internet, visit Facebook's Security Page {link}. Please also read the Wikipedia articles on malware {link} and phishing {link}.

and

and

again.

So this is their punishment for not allowing hotlinks, is it?

Happily, FB members don't seem to be very impressed by the warning, since-- ahem!-- I got the link from someone who actually did go on to the page :)

After exhaustive searching through FB's help pages, I learn that it is impossible to contact Facebook unless you are logged in. Which is to say, unless you are a member. Being affected by their actions does not count for squat.

This is one of the worse netiquette breach out there. Now Facebook would obviously be an exception due to their sheer size, but for others, that's when you contact their web hosting provider directly instead. If you think I'm gonna jump through hoops to be allowed to contact you, especially to discuss your negative actions, you just lost my good faith and I consider you a rogue operation.
