Are there any general rules when it comes to responding to emails asking if you're interested in selling your website?

I've responded with a real dollar amount - never hear from them again ;)

I've got a few of those emails but I'm not ready to sell. And from what I can tell they will ask you for a lot of details on traffic, earnings, etc and sorta lowball you. I guess it depends on who's inquiring.

Swanny007, so is it worth responding if you're not ready to sell? Do you think I should just ignore them?

If you think you might sell some day, just tell them you're not interested right now. That way they may contact you again some day. If you never want to hear from them again, press Delete.

I never feel comfortable giving out my traffic & earnings stats to total strangers, I only made exceptions to people I got to know over time and that I knew were serious about it. My rule is the one who inquires first need to make the first offer. You know at least after that if they are on the same ball park.

it is said that you get the best value of your website when you dont want to sell it , so set your price right and roll the dice

I delete if it's sent from a gmail type account. I can't take that seriously. I always delete if it's an inquiry into a site I do not want to sell.

Haven't had any for a while. I always treat them as spam.
