Router setting to direct web traffic through E2500 to a server

My home web hosting used to work. But because of changing ISP from Verizon to TWC, TWC gave me a modem and I bought my own Linksys E2500 router. Both Verizon and TWC service I subscribed are Dynamic IP. I use a third party to redirect the web traffic to my home.

I use one of the 4 ethernet outputs of the modem to connect to the internet input port of the E2500. All wireless and wired devices work and can browse internet through the E2500.

I have assigned one computer as the web server and set the internal IP addess of this computer as 192.168.1.128. This was the setup when I used TWC ISP and TWC provided router.

I loaded the CD came with the E2500 router and can see the LAN 192.168.1.128.

My problem starts from here, I do not know how to set the port in E2500 to make the web traffic to 192.168.1.128

1. Using the E2500 CD, I click to "APPLICATION AND GAMING", then "SINGLE PORT FORWARDING". under the APPLICATION NAME, I select one of the box to HTTP and type in 128 under "TO IP ADDRESS". I then click ENABLED, then "save settings"

This does not work. I can browse internet but cannot access my website from any machines.

Then I tried:

2. with item 1 above, I continued to do SETUP>>BASIC SETUP>>DHCP RESEVERSATION. I can see the compute/sever name and the 192.168.1.128. I then click the "select" and save the client.

I restarted the computer/server, I unplug and plug the E2500 power. I check the server internal IP address and it is still the same. But I just cannot browse to my website. I can browse other places.

Any idea of what is wrong on my doing? Please help.

It's port forwarding you definitely want. But the IP address isn't 128. It's 192.168.1.128. You need the full IP address, not the last three digits.

One other thing to try on an internal computer, is to type in 192.168.1.128 into your browser and see if you get the website. If you do, then it's your router having the problem. If you don't, then you've got something wrong with the webserver.

Wheel,

Thanks for the quick feedback. When I am in the E2500 CD menu. The 192.168.1 were fixed, I only need to type in 128 to get 192.168.1.128. So I think that is not the issue.

I had the web server working for 3 years with Verizon. The variable this time is changing the modem/router. Verizon gave me a modem router as one unit and I had that working with their method on port forwarding. Now I am facing a modem/router given to me by TWC and I connected my Linksys E2500 router behind it. I am trying the port forwarding in the E2500.

I will try the 192.168.1.128 on another machine tonight and give you update.

Wheel,

I typed 192.168.1.128 from other machines and they all find the website. So the problem is setting the port forwarding in the E2500. I need help on how to set the port forwarding. I followed the Cisco Linksys E2500 on line menu and still not working.

Or I am thinking because there are two layers. The traffic comes from ISP line and hit the TWC modem-router first, and then get to the E2500 router. May be should I do the port forwarding in the TWC modem-router? This modem-router is free from TWC and very cheap, not sure it has port forwarding feature.

Or theoretically I can do port forwarding in the E2500 which is the second layer.

i think you'll have to do the port forwarding in the modem/router first.
i would try an ethernet connection directly to one of the router outputs, open a browser and request http://192.168.1.1 and see if you get an admin login.

Phranque,

I obtained the 192.168.0.1 logon id and pw from TWC, I did the port forwarding in the modem/router and it works.

Thanks
