Whole site is completely dead - all the hosted domains and one.com itself.
Anyone know more ?

This is really wierd.
I know their hosted domains go down pretty often but i normally just connect to their live help and complain. This time, one.com itself is 'gone' too! Talk about unreliable!

This means tens of thousands of sites are down. And the worrying thing is the company site is down too. Has the company gone under or something ?

One.com didnt even give notice of closing down - i could have saved a copies of my websites and databases. Now i can get nothing - everything is down, ftp included :(

Nobody know nothing ? It's one of the world's top hosting services (they say) - could it really be gone, just like that? Any other reason why all the hosted sites AND the company site disappear together?

I did a LOT of updating recently and would be really shattered if I lost all that work.
It's strange - seems as though their DNS is gone, rather than a 404 ...
Good to get a feedback. And was just about to get a kip ... :(

I have had some sites with yahoo for about ten years and never noticed any down time (other than when they cut my site for going over transfer capacity although, they said, a cheaper plan was available with no limit - but i'd have to jump some hoops to make the change - i will never forgive them for that, my site was down at the most important time. Also yahoo gives no htaccess acsess, has no live help if not in the US and is incredibly dim anyway. Yahoo? No way. One.com - pissed me off many times, but making progress. Really angry about today though. If there were search engine bots active, screwed big time.

If you've ever worked in a (IT) company you know the BS.
If I thought there was anything genuinely better, I'd jump; but i doubt there is. Capatilism = quick buck. C'est la vie.
Freaked me out seeing the company site disappear. Just backed up everything ! Well, four hours to go ......... And it's the thought of having to sooooo slowly upload it all again some where else that makes me feel so 'give up'

Id of been happy with just a bit of notification that it was going down for maintaince, ive had problems with them in the past and my sites have been hoped from one server to another i eventually got an extra speed upgrade (apparently)and a extra hard drive space allowance for my main site, which was nice. im the UK and my sites are aimed for people here so as its now 6:45 AM i don't really have to worrie about my audiance missing out.

Here's the one.com interchange (excerpt) :
you: even one.com was unreachable for ages ! you: WHY ? Shen: It is working okay as I have checked you: one.com itself was down for ages you: you cant deny it Shen: There was a problem with the server but it is fixed now you: even your company server ? you: your service is sounreliable ! Shen: The downtime just took 5-8 minutes you: it ws over an hour - and no warning ! you: this keeps happening and i am really mad ! Shen: The downtime was not planned so there will be no warning for that Shen: Is there anything else I could assist you with?
It's often phony, but at least you get someone to rant at ;)

you: Whats gone wrong now?! Candy: What do you mean? you: What! you tellin me nothing has gone on recently? you: SO, what happend to make one.com and every other site hosted by them go down ? Candy: It should be working now you: yes it is BUT i just would love to know why it was all down for the last hour and a bit? Candy: That was only an hour. Candy: Due to network maintenance. you: and network maintenance is normally planed so why was ther no notification? Candy: Good question and I have no idea why there was no email sent you: nevermind, is ther an other network maintenance planed any time soon? Candy: No, there's none

It's funny that it was almost exactly 5am ;)
But most of my traffic is US so this was more a less a peak time.
Luckily, i think googlebot was absent during the 'break' but have no doubt a thousand pissed-off visitors :(

Excuse the stupid question but... Are y'all saying that they don't have an unrelated site hosted in an entirely different location where you go to find out what's going on when your server disappears?
! ! !
My host is constantly having little blips*, but everyone knows exactly where to go to rant. I guess it makes people feel better to be the 384th person in a row to say "I hate this host!"
* But nothing compared to the time I was down for 12 hours because I misplaced a period in an .htaccess file. Oops. Now I always check after uploading a revision.

This is a company that deserve to go out of business, for the way they deal with domain names. Over the years I have bought hundreds of different domains, and a couple of years ago I bought a few through one.com. I know of no other domain seller who automatically renew domains if you have NOT paid to renew them and then send in debt collection agencies to collect the domain fee plus around £40 for their own collection fees. They will also write to you asking you phone a premium rate phone number to discuss the matter. Total Scumbags, avoid at all costs.

It's good to know that no data was "losted" though.
Certainly their customers must be reassured, knowing that.

One.com can never go down. After all it says on their homepage they were the editors choice of PC-Magazine Netherlands and Belgium in 07-08/2009.
If a host or registrar is still advertising with 2 year old magazine reviews on his homepage you know it is time to leave...
