Using free / ISP email ids

I have noticed that a lot of online buyers and sellers use free email ids like hotmail, gmail.
Also if you have been using the internet for long, you may may have ISP email ids for legacy reasons.

Are there any disadvantages of using these email ids and can the email provider object to the usage of a mail id?

If the ISP is lax about dealing with spammers and compromised machines on their network you may find that their server gets blacklisted occasionally. The free providers put a cap on the number of addressees on an email. Using a free provider address as the from address with a mailing list service can cause messages to bounce - Hotmail for example will not accept anything with a Hotmail "from" address if it comes from outside their system.

It can take a bit of work to ensure that free providers don't bounce incoming messages from an email form.

For routine emails I have found no technical problems although as a matter of credibility I prefer to use my own domain name even when reading through Hotmail.
