Websites that cannot be accessed due to router blocking related site

I use my DLink router to block a few ad, #*$!, and tracking sites. When I do so, certain other seemingly unrelated sites are no longer available on my machine (401 The web site is blocked by administrator). But when I disconnect the router, all sites are available. An example: www.pcmag.com is not available to me when the router is connected, and of course I have not blocked pcmag.com.
How is it that a site unrelated to any of the sites I block becomes blocked?

I determined the site on my router's list of blocked sites that is causing the problem with accessing pcmag.com.
If I remove velaro.com from the block list, then reset the router, then I can get to pcmag.com.
But although these two sites appear to be independent, there must be some connection between them that causes one to block the other.

Can anyone suggest a reason why this is happening?

I finally found out that velaro.com is used by pcmag.com to provide chat services etc. This must be the reason for the blocking.
But I can still use my browser to block cookies from velaro.com and get full access to pcmag.com.
